Cima di Terrarossa
I was looking for a route where I could take my kids to see the ibexes in the wild. I know many routes where you can see them, but I was searching for something that's not too long or too exposed, with a very high likelihood of encountering them. This route delivered exactly that. Up and down, using the old military path that they've used for transport with mules. It serpentines through the steep terrain towards the peak. Some of the ibexes come literally onto the walking path. So you can get next to them. But please, don't try to touch them! Not to mention the view from the top - all the way up to Grossglockner! On the way down, you can make a stop at the hut.
Parking is free.
Warnings
- Towards the top, the gravel can be quite slippery. Make sure to keep your steps sturdy.
- Ibexes are great, but they tend to kick stones - make sure to wear a helmet!
Protective gear
- Climbing helmet
